Diesel Swap
#1
Alright, I have been kicking this idea around for a few days, and I need more info to find out if it is possible to do.
I want to pull my motor, trans, and rear end and swap a duromax, powerstroke, or cummins into it, with the right trans and rear. I see 1 ton crewcabs running 12's and I know in a 1/2 ton regular cab truck, it would haul major ***. I guess the main question would be, will it fit? If it does, all it would take is $15,000 for the swap
I don't know how much it would cost really, but I think the end result would be well worth it.

You would be better off trading or selling your truck and buying a reg cab 3/4 ton with the oil burner factory installed.A swap would be a HUGE job.Truck would never be emission legal again.

Have you seen the prices that junkyards want for these motors? I was looking into it just for s-n-g's, but decided that there was NO way that I could afford it.
Wouldn't a built 427 with a blower get you more bang for the buck?

Junk Yard engine=$5000
Tranny that will take the torqu=$4000
11.5" 14 bolt rear=$1200
Rewiring, exhaust mods, plumbing the intercooler and turbo=bloody knuckles, loss of hair, lots of cussing.
Just trade on a 2wd 2500HD. Save yourself the heartache and $$$$$$$$$ of the swap.

I know, diesels are very expensive, but the motor will last longer and you can run insane amounts of boost as long as your drive train can handle the power. How much would a 427 with a blower cost? I seen all these people spending insane amounts of money on 400+ cube engines, blowers, etc. With the same amount of money, I think a nice diesel engine with a larger turbo in a light weight truck would be quicker and more dependable than anything. I can get my hands on a 93 Chevy 6.5L turbo diesel and a 97 7.4L powerstroke for free. Old work trucks which would need some work, but I would not have the huge cost of buying a complete diesel engine.
I have no clue if they would fit, but the 93 Chevy has a fresh 4L80E that I could use too. Not sure on the rear, but I bet it would fit without a whole bunch of work.
This is obviously a HUGE project, and there would be a handful of problems I'm sure, so not sure if it would be worth the trouble, but if it has the possiblity to run 9's or 10's, then it could be worth it.

I seriously doubt 9s or 10s.I would definetely pass on the old gm garbage diesel. If you really want to do it I say get a cummins. They make the most power when modded.

sounds like a huge waste of money to me. Stroke your motor if you want some power. If you want to pull a house and get nice mileage, sell your truck and buy a diesel. You wont be happy with the result when you get beat by someone that spent 3k on their truck and you just dropped like 10k to make it work

Alright, so it was a bad idea.. I guess it's better to figure this stuff out before the project got started. I still think a 10 second truck is possible,(I'm hard headed) but I'm not willing to shell out that kind of cash to find out. Thanks for all the reply guys. Saved me a lot of money and headaches.

I am going Diesel early next year. I have decided I can make absurd amounts of power for far, far less than doing a gas motor...and still have some fuel economy.
Besides I need the extra room of a crew cab so this seems like a nice deal.
Hell with just programmers I have seen trucks that size go mid 14 sec...imagine with some propane, 4" exhaust, and a but of spray...
