Default did it help?

i know alot of the truck guys are running cutouts. did anyone get before and after 1/4 times?

also...explain your motor and mods, and if the times were in comparison from stock vs. cutout or aftermarket vs. cutout. if aftermarket, what setup?

just tryin to feel this out

i installed a single manual 3" cutout about 1 foot from the stock Y joint. i picked up 2 tenths vs running through my flowmaster. tune, pulley, cai, plugs, wires, efans, cam, gears, street tires. on the same day i tested it open and closed. every time i opened it i would be 2 tenths quicker in the quarter than with it closed. granted, i have a flowmaster so i am sure people with magnaflow or other high flow muff won't see that gain. but for 30 bucks, and 20 to have it welded on, i was happy. plus it sounds better.

Yeah, there has been a lot of questions regarding this. I think, and this is just my personal opinion and from what I have seen from others, that you would see a gain from cutouts over stock exhaust or even maybe flowmasters or other similar exhausts. Magnaflow, dynomax or other straight thru design exhausts may yield a gain from cutouts, but it will not be near as much say over a stock system. I have seen many use cutouts over there aftermarket exhausts lose a little even. So its just kind of a crap shoot. But the price for cutouts is minimal unless you decide to go electric, so you might want to try it just to see.

i already have a manual 3" cutout on my stock pipe and muffler. i never took it to the track on the factory exhaust though. i planned on taking it on and off last time i was at the track but left my wingnuts at home . i feel like it gained, but my SOTP meter has been known to be thrown off due to sound.

TXsilverado, how far away from the muffler did you install your cutout? I was looking at my truck and there is a nice straight length of pipe just behind the Y-pipe flange. Just wondering where you guys have them.

im in an extended cab. theres a bar that crosses between the frame rails that it sits right above. the dump comes pretty close to next to the muffler.
