I was out riding around with my Predator hooked up,checking for KR at WOT.Well my KR showed zero but I swear I thought I was hearing audible detonation.Is that possible...detonation but no KR.Or could the noise be somthing else like the exhaust or somthing(leak)??I plan on pulling the plugs and checking them,maybe I can tell somthing from them.
What do ya'll think it was??

detonation is a pretty distinct noise. If I had to relate it to anything, I would say when I heard detonation in my seeing how high I could advance timing with the blower tunes, it souded like I was spinning a bunch of rocks off of my tires and hitting the underside of the body.

 

Yeah, my truck has never shown any KR and there have been many many times when I could here it (and I have bad hearing) Before I got edit the only time I EVER saw any KR would be like when it was passing through the range of about 102 to 110 MPH then it would show 2 or 3. I haven't seen any KR ever since I got edit and like I said, experimenting with the tuning I am always making it "ping" and KR never kicks in. Maybe it is something to do with the 2002 models? I remember way back when I still had the 5.3 and it was on Superchips' dyno, I was standing about 20 feet away and they let it detonate so bad I thought for sure the bottom was going to come out of the motor! I remember them saying how they thought it was weird that it never showed any KR.

 

I'm pretty sure it was detonation....kinda sucks that you cant rely on the knock sensors.If I wasnt listening for it I'd have never known(I had the radio off)I dont think I would have heard it over the radio.
