Default in depth ?s about converters and gears

O.k., I recorded some things today when I was driving. These are at what mph I was driving when I punched it and what rpms it jumped to:

20mph = downshifted to 1st (Don't really know what rpm, but it revs very fast)

35mph = shifted into 2nd at ~2300-2400rpms

62mph = downshifted to 2nd at ~4300-4400rpms

65mph = shifted into 3rd at ~2600-2700rpms

My question is how do I get my rpms to jump higher? What I mean by that is, when I'm just cruising around and someone tries to race me, if I punched it from like 35 or 65, I would probably get beat real bad.

From what I understand a converter with a little bigger stall ratio will help at wot between shifts, but would it help with my problem?

And I been told gears wouldn't really help me, and just make my problem worse.

I switched to bigger tires. I had 255/70/R16 and went to 265/70/R16. Would that have worsened my problem?

Please, help! Thanks in advance.

ah i wouldnt mod my truck just for roll races. quarter mile would be all that mattered to me. on rolls just find out what ur best mphs are then only race from those. differnent gears ratios and diff converters will be stronger in diff areas

you switching tire sizes dont help. you actually went up in overall diameter. so
you shift points will be off a little. [unless corrected] and as far as overall diameter
more mass equals more rolling resistance.

There is a table in you pcm that sets all of those parameters. Take you truck back to Allen and tell him what you want and he can change it. But also note that this will change all of you part throttle shift points as well.
Btw.. what does each gear shift out at WOT? This plays a factor too.

My TT 3000 definately eliminated those dead spots.

With a TT 3000, at 35 or 65 mph it will flash to 3500 rpm instead of 2400-2600. It will also give you 300rpm more shift extension...Drops to 3900 rpm after WOT 1-2 2-3 shift instead of 3600.

Or you could even go with a smaller converter if you're not concerned about towing, and get even more shift extension.

I've got a SS3800 going in that should have about 4800-5000rpm shift extension.

The TT 3000 is probably better if you've never had a stall before, and keeps your tow rating.

Also, gears won't help, and that small of a tire size change is nothing to worry about. Except maybe your speedo is off a tiny bit.

What would the TT2600 do?

I would get the larger stall. My buddy had a TT3000 and wished had gotten bigger but, the TT3000 is a great coverter. Go with the 3000 and you will be plenty happy.

Yes...Get the 3000! If you get the 2600, I guarantee you will want more. The 3000's drivability is so good, you'll be glad you didn't go with the 2600.

Wouldn't I have bad traction problems w/ the 3000 stall on the street?
