Default Decided on complete combo will buy this week///any mistakes? /improvements/?

Truck is LT3 03 GMC ½ to ECSB had 4l60E with 4.8 engine 3:42:rear Drive By Wire
1. TSP Comp Cam 212/218---522 int./0.529 exh. Lift (Almost decided on CC Extreme truck cam but CC said this one was better)
2. 2600 Stall New
3. TSP PS LT’s with Y pipe
4. New variable speed EFANS ,(just bought today),
5. 2006 6.0 w 317 aluminum 10:51 comp heads with 13k miles on stock ,(sitting in my garage now)
6. Mild tranny build 4l60e shift kit servos etc…,(brother doing it ),..
7. Local dyno Tune…can’t decide on 93 or 89 oct though

How’s this for DAILY DRIVER….I do not want to lose any creature comforts but want the most HP / Torque within this range…I will pull a very small Bass boat 16 foot alumimun….SOUND GOOD? I dont think I need any thing else for what I want /?

1. I would go with a cam with more lift personally since the 317 heads flow best around .550" of lift. Go with an Isky cam from Stock48 (PM him, he's a member here). Very reasonable price too.
2. Okay which brand is it
3. Not a fan of Pacesetter's myself due to crap ceramic coating and thin walls. LPP's or OBX/ebay headers are a better choice for cheaper in my opinion. But PS's do get the job done performance wise.
4. What brand are they? I wouldn't run anything that wasn't OEM myself, but coming from someone who just switched to Efans, I wouldn't recommend it over the clutch fan. There was no noticeable power or gas mileage gains. Your gonna need a 145 amp alternator now too.
5. Unless those heads are milled (shaved), compression should either be 9.4:1 (lq4) or 10.1:1 (LQ9)
6. I'd keep the trans stock and in the tune remove 0-40% TM, increase line pressure to the tow/haul settings and bring shift times down to around .3 seconds across the board. If you're brother knows what he's doing for sure, those seem like viable mods to make, but they could do more harm than good if not installed properly.
7. 93 octane

That will tow your boat fairly well. It should be able to cruise on the highway around 70 mph and go up hills without downshifting like the putrid 4.8

WOW great post Thank you !!!

1. I look into the Isky cam and your recomendation..;-) dosnet have to thump though really dont care about sound just performance but I know most of that is LS and .50 duration .../Great have not bought yet/
2.Converter is a new O.E modified internaly by a shop thats been doing them custom built for 25 years ...either that way or an Art Carr If I wanted to spend more $$ wich I dont
3. GREAT ADVICE will check those out have not bought LT,s Yet
4.made for the model truck 5500 dual 15" Flex a lite with VSP The new 6.0 motor came with a 160 amp alterantor
5. I read in a motor compare article mag that the 317 had higher compression but i now doe remember that the 9 has difefernt Pistons so that makes sense /Thanks for the clarifing ...I do have the 4.8 heads but probablt not worth the swap
6. Ill pass this on to my brother he is a master Mech at 44 and runs a shop over 12 guys lost count of how many of these hes done..lol but yea he said it would shift normall till I romp it then could bark the first 3 if the HP is there...his cost on parts is aorund 2 bills for everything including vette servos /shift kit ....also running the Denalli 20: wheels
7. Cool 93 it is ...

thanks agin for the great advise ;-) I am pumped and cant wait to get the rest of the stuff

Cool, looks like you're well on your way.

I would not run that Flex a lite VSC controller. There have been several people on here who used them and they fail and they also catch on fire I believe.

Your best bet is to get some LS1 camaro electric fans or some 2005+ silverado electric fans (but these require the larger 34" radiator - costly). Then you can run a Nelson or Blackbear wiring harness which is a direct wire in, very easy to install.

But as I said before, save yourself the cash and just run the clutch fan.

I have to disagree. One of the benefits of the FAL's is the VSC controller and it's soft-start feature that's much easier on the electrical system. I've got buddies that put the OEM GM e-fans on their vehicles and they have dimming lights when the fans kick on. I know you can add larger wiring to lessen the issue but the main culprit is with the large, immediate amperage draw.

I've put 40K miles on my FAL fans, running the VSC controller. They redesigned the controller several years ago and I haven't heard of any issues since they added additional heat sinks. Just make sure you run larger-than-required gauge wiring; I also prefer soldered terminal connections over crimped.
