Default Is this a decent price on a 4L80E?

This customer of mine has a 4l80E + transfer case that has 22miles on it (GM damage recovery). I think the guy he got it from charges $1700 for the tranny but not sure if that included the T-case.

I looked on Car-parts.com and they range from $850-$1400 for the tranny.

What's the most you guys would pay for this thing? I wanna call him and make an offer.

Define damage recovery. If it's considered a GM damaged part, then there's no way in hell I would pay that much for it.

As reference, I got mine with 1600 miles on it, stock converter, flex plate, dipstick and tube for 1300 even shipped.

Thx Flyer,

I think what they mean is that the vehicle was damaged before it was sold and they took the parts off em. This company buys them from GM on contract or something and resells them. That's why they have such low miles. Liek the 8.1L motor he has only has 9miles on it.

Who does he work for? Does he work at a plant somewhere? I work at a plant in Shreveport and if they sell off the parts then I may can come across some 60e cores.

I don't remeber the name of the company that the 4x4 shop got it from but I have the # to the place.

Turns out I can get the tranny with 9miles on it for $750 and I bet I can get the transfer case along with it for no more than $900. It's the electronic switch case but he is not sure if it is the 4button or 3 button unit. He is gonna bring it by on monday for me to check out.

You can get a low mileage 4l80e for like 800 or so?

If the 4l80e is so much stronger than why do people pay 1500 for a 4l60e build?

Does he have any information on the recovery? If the damage was flooding the trans is worth the price of a bare case because that's all that will be salvagable. I recall an incident in the news where a freight trail full of GM vehicles derailed. There was a fire. The unburned ones that just got smashed should be great sources of parts.

Technical issues to overcome - crossmemeber, transfer case if 4x4, driveshaft length, U-joint, harness adaptation, cooling lines, exhaust fitment, programming, narrower ratio range, weight, downtime, existing investments in torque converter, pan, etc.

It all translates into cost and time - sometimes synonymous terms.
