Default Dana???

I am trying to decide to go with the dana 60 or save a lot of money and rebuild the 10 bolt with a Power Traxx locker, a set of 4.10's and a set of Caltracs bars. Here is my setup: stock bottom end 5.3, Stage II LS6 heads, 236/240 600/600 cam, rebuilt 4L60 with 3400 stall, stock 10 bolt. I am spraying 150 shot out of the hole. Currently I am running a set of Nitto 555's on 18's. This fall I plain on putting a set of 16's on and running full slicks. Will the rear hold up lanching at 3400 rpm?? or even lower??

There is a place(rear end shop) out in California that sells a conversion for our trucks to a 14 bolt but, for the life of me I can remember the name.

FOUND IT!!! Thanks to my email archive folder and the search function.

This is a quote from one of the guys there.

We do build a custom 10.5 14 bolt converted into a 6 lug semi float axle. the housing start at just over $1900.00 for a open diff and reusing your brakes.

If you want a 14 bolt you could get a 6 lug 9.5" 14 bolt. They are semi floaters and were somewhat popular on the old body style light duty 2500s.

If you are considering a dana 60, id say do the 14 bolt just because its cheaper, and if you went with the 10.5" 14 bolt it is a lot stronger and cheaper than a dana 60.

Also I have a 10.5" 14 bolt that I converted to 6 lug. Its still a full floater but its 6 lug. I use it under my blazer. The conversion consists of billet hubs and a disk brake conversion kit. It will cost you about a grand to convert everything, but you will have one bullet proof 6 lug rear end.

Personally Id just try to put a 9" back there.

I agree with all the above. Here's some more to keep in mind:

D60's are expensive
14bolts are heavy
and neither axle will run the factory ABS with out some work.

I say go 14 bolt.
