why on earth would you want 3500 for your peak torque if you have a 3000 stall converter and plan on spinnging to 65-6600 rpm???? 4500 wouldnt be bad at all, especially for those tires
and... for what its worth, my trucks peak torque is right around there as well... (4400-4600)

Once you have the stall bottom end torque basically becomes useless except for cruising around when the converter is locked. If the 3000 stall for the trucks is anything like the car stalls you shouldn't drop below ~4400rpm on the shifts with your shiftpoints up at ~6500.
I think a cam on a 112 would be your best bet but, there will probably be some tuning issues with the auto trans. I don't see why it wouldn't pass emissions. There have actually been some fairly radical cams that have passed with ease in the cars.(As long as you have cats)
DaMann - Why 28% for drivetrain loss in the trucks. Assuming a 2wd 1500. They have the same transmission as the cars. The only differences I can think of are the driveshaft length and 8.5" rear instead of the 7.5". Seems like they should be fairly close.
BradWlv - Just think of your truck as a very heavy car. Check out some of the combos the cars are running and model after them. As long as you match your converter, cam, and heads I think you'll have a great running truck. Power is power right, whether its hauln 3200lbs or 4300lbs. Congrats on the stage II heads for $1000. Thats a great deal.

Brad, Really slow truck and John are right. You are a running a heavy car and the set up you are working on will work really well. Don`t worry, non of the cams mentioned would give you a 3500 peak torque..lol! Cams are very deceptive on the degrees and ramp angles. You can make a .111 run just as smooth as a .114...Just throwing out a few specs like .111 or .114 LSA does not mean radical or tame. A few degrees of LSA VS a little more/less duration will not drop your torque 1200 rpm (lol) unless you are talking diesel motor torque and I know you are not..
Your converter is rated at 3000 stall for a 5.3 litre and the stall will be about 400 to 600 plus rpm looser with the added torque you will get from a heads and cam 347- 360 CID. You will have a beast that will pass the sniffer.
Again, stay away from those XER lobes, unless you are looking for a more race oriented truck.Which, I don`t think you are.. I talked at lenght with the Comp cam rep at the SEMA show last fall about ramp angles, springs, and wear and tear on parts. I am using the 26918-16 comp springs with my new cam..They are sweet.

If you have already done the research on this and feel comfortable with this task then go for it. I can't imagine what the electrical wiring mods your going to have to do. But if others have done this and can point you in the right direction then do it.
I think the B1 cam is your best bet for idle, emissions and nos do to the lobe seperation (114). At least this is what I've been told.
If it were me (I'm not big on trucks), I'd slap them heads and a cam into a C5.
I thought you were looking to sell your truck and get one? Plans change?
Peace,
Craig.

I just talked ot a guy i work with and he gave my number to his son. After talking with his son, I should now have a complete heads and cam setup with all gaskets and everything to bolt onto an LS1 within the week for somewhere in the range of $1000. The best thing is that they are legit parts and have a good quality stage 2 port job.
I just can't explian how happy I am. I was going to be saving a long time to get the money to buy some MTI stage 2 heads and so on. Now I can get them very soon. Next I have to get the shortblock and refresh it a little. get the pistons ordered and a few minor machine thing to the block and crank.
I might have the LS1 dropped into my truck before the end of summer!

There seems to be a lot of stage two heads floating around on the street these days. Whats up with that?

Well, these should be new. was told if they have any miles on them it will be under 100 miles or so. I am still planning on getting some more info on them once he gives me a price that is set.
As for the cam.... I was about to post about that! I have no clue....i was going to get a custom grind. But I think I am going to buy an off the shelf cam from MTI or TR. But now....which one should I go with? I am not too smart when it comes to cams.
What would work good in a heavy truck with an LS1 that is about 356-360 ci and has the truck intake on it. I will also like to spray the motor and I plan to. but I want it to run as well as I can make it on motor....i want the n20 to be a just incase kinda thing....not something I willl always need. I got tired of paying to fill the bottles every few days before.
TR224?
T1?
B1?
I have no clue....you guys can help me out though. Like I said....i dont know too much about cams.....

Craig,
With me moving into an apt. within the next two days my funds for a C5 are kinda exhausted at the moment after buying furniture and everything, plus the extra bills I am about to start paying on. I thought about it a lot and decided I would prefer to not have a C5 in an apt. complex and have it screwed up by jackass people. I decided to hold off on the vette for a few years and until I get into a house. By that time I should be doing well enough to possibly buy me a new C6 (depending on what they turn out to be).
I ran across what I think are some really good deals and with about 6 months until my warrenty is up. I might as well clean the truck up some and have a little fun with it.
As far as the swap.....the motors are a direct change over and as I was told by Valvegod the wiring from the 5.3 is still able to be used on the LS1. Shaun, also mentioned that he put a LS1 computer in his truck when he did his, but I have also heard its not needed. Either way a new computer is about 250 then the tuning on it for the motor. I will be talking a lot with Shaun when I get down to doing th swap, since he already has an LS1 with the truck intake on his truck.

I really think you shouldn't rule out a 6.0l instead of a 5.7l! Joseph & I bought another 6.0L for $100!!! Look around for a 6.0L, offset grind that crank & put 4.060 pistons in it Have those guys ever ported LS1 heads before? I dont know why DaMann thinks Brooke is smoking something, I'd run a 111 no problem I'm running a 112 right now
How about 218 218 561 561 on a 112 Thats a pretty nice cam IMHO
