Alright, I'm looking to slim my truck down for my near future track run.

I've got the rear bumper off and put in a fiberglass rollpan, 60 lbs I figure. I also removed the spare tire, 50 lbs worth. There are no cats on, which I figure were 40LBS worth between the two. The heavy factory muffler is off replaced with an ultraflow, and I only have about 4 inches of pipe after the muffler, which I figure saved about 35 lbs. I also have an aftermarket intake, which I figure saved 5 lbs. The lowering components I'ld say lost me 10 lbs over the stock suspension stuff.

So if my thinking is correct I've cut about 200 lbs, does that sound right?

Where can I find another 100-200 lbs to lose w/o taking a saw to the body panels?

How hard would it be and how much could I save by removing the passenger and center seat?

How much will another 150 lbs or so lost translate into ET gains?

Have you taken out the wench for the spare tire? its one bolt and it just slides out.....and the seats are easy to remove as well I believe 6 bolts will get the pass. seat and center seat. The tailgate slides off easily as well.

I have heard that every 100lbs = tenth, but I'm not sure if that is true for our trucks or not.

 

Fuel is about 8 lbs/gallon. You might as well pull all those CDs out of the console and dump the glovebox out as well.

I will be removing my boxed 6x9s before the run too.

Any more big items that I can chunk.... other than the AC?

 

you can take your windshield washer resevoir out.

 

every 100 pounds is a tenth in the 1/4 mile unless you are allready running 10's.
but pull out the floor mats, everything inside the truck. you can pull out the seats,sun visors, run on 1/4 tank of gas, get some light weight wheels and tires, fiberglass hood.

 

If you are really serious you can remove the bed! Hell even the hood would be worth it!

 

If you've already ditched the spare, don't forget the crossmember and winch that the spare hangs from. Also ditch the jack and all it's pieces. Without the spare it's all useless weight.

Anyone read that old Hot Rod mag article a number of years ago, where they pulled some big old car out of the junkyard and started hacking away at it to see what weight reductions would do for it?

They started out running the quarter at well over 20 seconds... Seriously, like 28 seconds. They replaced the fuel filter and got somewhere under 20 seconds, maybe 18's or 19's... From there, they started chopping stuff off. Doors, hood, trunklid got X-ammount knocked off. Front clip, passenger seats got another X-ammount. They ended up with something that looked like the cop car in Smokey and the Bandit. It was nothing but frame, motor, firewall, driver seat, floorpan and gas tank. I don't forget the exact times, but it was QUITE respectable. In the 12's or 13's.
