Fiberglass hood, lightweight wheels, lexan windows?

 

While your at it find a skinny midget to drive it.

 

I'm not trying to get too crazy with this, as I drive it 90% of the time. I have another truck, but I only use it to haul trash and drive when I am working on the 99.

I am not trying to get too radical. I don't plan to remove the bed or anything like that.

I want it to look and be pretty much like I would drive on the street, but you know... a little lighter.

Any idea how much my regular cab sportside weighs now - dry and w/o driver with the reductions I have now?

 

i see several mentions on a fiberglass hood, is there really and weight savings there? who sells hoods?

 

A fiberglass hood that uses the stock hinges will probably only knock off 10 lbs or so because of how thick of fiberglass that they have to use in order to make it sturdy. If you would find a "lift-off" hood that uses just pins to hold it on it would probably be good for 30+lbs. Haven't really looked into who makes them, but I bet that you would just have to pick up any truckin' or street trucks magazine to find some.

 

screw fiberglass try to find a carbon fiber hood stronger lighter just all out better if you could find one..

 

Funny you mention that. I was looking through truckin while i was in the "office" and came upon carbon fiber hoods with ram air styles.

On page 323 of the new march 05 issue of trucking they have a advertise ment for them.

I am reducing weight and adding HP.

In addition to the mods below, I'm sending off for my tune very soon.
A month or two after that its a stall or some nitrous oxide.

Plus, cutting weight helps acceleration, handling, and braking. More HP only helps one of those performance categories.
