I can't speak to mufflers but I just installed a vibrant cat that muffled things quite a bit. They're compact too and easy to mount pretty much anywhere in the exhaust system. They're also rated to some great HP numbers. For me the final benefit was no more exhaust smells.

I did a quick and nasty job making mine mount right after the LT header Ypipe. I also added a slip fitting in case I ever decide to rebuild my exhaust in the future.

Yes, I know I can't weld....

Actually my boost activated cutout is a ton of fun since it opens and closes so fast.

The problem isnt drone, its volume. The tube wont really help me yet.

I could go dual 3", but that would be a lot of work and I am kind of not looking to do that just yet.

Like madmann said, Helmhotz tube is also an option. If you can squeeze it in there.
that necks down to dual 2.5" inside the muffler.

Problem is they flow like such **** it'll kill decent power when its closed. No fun...

I could do that. Don't really want to hack up my ARH mid pipes just yet.

A stock muffler flows plenty when you are cruising on the highway or around town at part throttle. When you demand more power, boost goes up and cutout opens.

I'm about to put a boost activated cutout on one of my tailpipes post-muffler to get rid of some of the volume and throw in a quarter wave resonator at the same time.

I think the farther the exhaust get's from the headers, the less important size is. Also think that a supercharged application is less impacted by smaller (relatively, from dual 3.0" to 2.5") exhaust. Technically the supercharger is flowing the same amount of air since it is fixed, boost may go up slightly with a more restrictive exhuast.

I say this as I made good power with 1 5/8 shorty headers and dual 2.5" exhaust. Dual 3.0" would definitely be better, but I don't think you are going to notice much of a power gain. Just my 2 cents.

You mentioned not going over the axle with 4"... Do you have it turned down under the truck or exiting in front of the rear tire?
If either of those are true, why not use two 3" mufflers?

If you are running 4" over the axle and exiting near the rear corner, there is room to use a 12" long Dynomax bullet. It toned mine down significantly. I'm currently running an MBRP QuietTone muffler after the Y and the dynomax bullet after the axle before the exit dumped out the back corner.

As for the dual 3 in/single 4 out muffler, I too searched for one as an easy fix to replace the flowmaster Y but came up short.
