Default crankshaft has 1/8 inch of play

back to front. think this might be throwing off my crankshaft position sensor off ?

Yes, the thrust bearing has gone out. You will need a new crank and bearings

There is a possibility that you can get the thrust surface welded up and reground if your on a tight budget.
