I have been wondering about this very issue... The only other question I have at this point is what are ya'll doing for shocks?? Obviously, if the front end is raised 1.5", the shocks will be 1.5" closer to their maximum extension. Not like I'm talking about trying to go rock crawling, but I'd like to have as much suspension as possible w/out spending a fortune (read: buying the Ford keys and new shocks would be fine, but I don't want to spring for a full-on lift kit).

 

I've heard stock shocks are good for about a max of 2 inches lift or drop.

 

I have an 02 1500 HD that I had the torsion bars cranked up by four wheel parts and my ride is kinda stiff. Would changing to different bars help keep same hight and soften ride? Just curious. The ride has gotten better after about 2 months but still stiff.

 

Changing bars wont do anything. Because you will have to crank more to get teh same lift if you go with a lighter bar.

Stock shocks suck anyway....jut get a good set of Rancho or Bilsteins.

 

Okay, I will get some shocks. Is there a specific model you would recommend by rancho or bilstein?

 

I'm running Rancho RSX on mine. These are the self adjusting model. They run nice and stiff on the street, a little more then stock. They soften up when drive down bumpy gravel roads.

 

Hey guys I'm back, I tried crank my torsions and I got about 8 turns and it raised it up about 1/2 inch and then it became hard to turn. Is there anyway to know when you have cranked the torsions far enough? Also what would happen if I put an impact on it and cranked'em that way?

 

If you crank enough, you can have the keys topping out on the cross member.

 

The keys? Is that were the torsion bar comes back midway to the back of the truck and then it turns to go under the cross member? I need to run that all the way up?
