Default Cracks in oil pan

I was cleaning out the oil pan today and noticed the bottom has a number of cracks in a checkerboard pattern with very rough edges as shown in this pic.

The outside of the pan looks OK and it doesn't seep any oil. Is this normal or do I need a new pan?

That is normal for that type of cast part.

Ya, those aren't cracks, just imprints from the casting mold the pan is made in

Thanks for the info. Just didn't want my oil pan to disintegrate on me after all this work.

Watch out for those things, they will cut you if you rub them hard enough.

Normal too BTW.

To clean the dregs out of the bottom of the oil pan.

Flyer - thanks for the warning. I was thinking maybe of sanding/grinding them down as they are very thin shards of metal and I don't want them breaking off and going though my bearings. Think this might be worthwhile or a wasted effort?
