Default could descreening maf cause detonation

i have a 01 silverado with ati procharger running 9psi boost and i have a little detonation at high rpms. I have good fuel pressure around 100 psi. When i put the procharger on a descreened the maf. Could that be the reason i am having problems? Or do i just need some tuning?

I think you just need a little tuning. Now, if you damaged the MAF during removal, that could cause it. Have you tried cleaning the MAF with a non oil contact cleaner? I doubt descreening is at the top of the list, but if you still have it, stick it back in and see what happens.

I believe a descreened MAF could cause some detonation with a F/I set up.I think it leans out the fuel some and changes the timing. If you can, borrow one with the screen and try it out and see if your detonation goes away.
Also...I may be wrong,but isn't 100psi high for fuel pressure??Just wondering.

The MAF sensor has a screen to reduce air turbulence because the air needs to be correctly metered by the wires of the sensor. As airflow through the intake changes(depending on where the RPMs are obviously), so does the places where air swirls around at different speeds in the tube. If the intake tube was straight it wouldn't be needed, look at the Camaro SS for example. The screen on the MAF keeps these values from fluctuating. If fluctuation happens the computer will compensate for fuel, but at the expense of constant adjustment to the "learned or long-term fuel trim" and "short-term", giving you poor idle quality and reduced fuel economy. Yes, the screen hinders airflow somewhat, but I would think removing it affects the health of your engine. My K&N cone filter hinders airflow too, so am I going to take that off?
I left the screen on my truck on.
I have heard that a de-screened or GMS MAF is bad with superchargers. I know that the Whipple S/C computer is based on MAF as one of its inputs and cannot adapt to fluctuating values to the extent the PCM can. That should give you an idea of what it does.
Hope this helps...
Good luck

yeah i know that 100 psi is too much, i believe that fuel pressure is supposed to be around 80-95 psi, but i wanted to have that extra fuel because of my detonation problem.

80-95 ...I'm running right about 62psi fuel pressure.I don't know anyone running fuel pressure that high regardless of thier set up.Hopefully someone who knows more about this will jump in here.I'm thinking that's way to high...but I could be wrong.

i am running about 61 psi without boost, but when the boost kicks in you are suppoesed to run about 80-95 psi and i am running about 100 psi

My Radix system runs about 45-47 at low throttle. Once it kicks into PE mode at 40% throttle it jumps to about 53-55. Then when it richens up a little more at 50% it goes to about 60psi. This is all with the stock tune from MagnaCharger using their boost-a-pump.
