Default Converter Stall

I think I'm going to buy a stall converter for my 4l80e tranny and I'm trying to figure out what size stall to get. It seems like the vig. 3200 stall is a popular converter. I know my 60' is a 1.88 and my quarter mile run is a 12.41 at 108 will the stock stall. How much of an improvement do you think a 3,200 stall would give in my 60' and 1/4 mile? Thanks guys

i'm not sure if the vig comes in a 3200 for the HD trans mission, but i know yank makes an hd 2800,3200, and 3400 stall for the 4l80e. From what i have heard on here the 4l80e guys are going with the multi disc 2800 from Precision industries. I think you will be happy with a 2800 as i'm sure you do most of your driving on the streets, and you have plenty of low end/mid range tq/hp so you really don't need a big stall like some of these guys running either big cams or centrifugal superchargers like the procharger that likes more rpm to build more boost. i have a 3200 yank and its awesome for my app. I think it will only help your 60ft if you have good traction. might imporve your 1/4 time .2-.3 i'm guessing.

a stall will help no matter what. I would go with the vig 3200. It's probably the convertor i'd go with if i had the money.

Your times are very impressive w/o a stall. What tires were you running on that run?

I'd say, don't go over 3000 with the whipple. The boost comes on so early, you really wouldn't need over 3000. If you can HOOK and cut a 1.70 60' with a really efficient converter that didn't lose mph, my guess would be the 12.0-12.1 range.

I really wouldn't be surprised at all to see you go a high 11.XX. Even with the low-end power you are making with the Whipple, its not like it falls off (or even stops increasing) after 3000rpm. A smaller converter is a bunch lighter than a stock converter, which also (in addition to the flash point) "frees-up" power that was absorbed by spinning the heavier converter. You should get the same, if not more, reduction in ET as a slower truck with the addition of the converter. I would think a half of a second +/- a tenth or so as well.

That sounds awesome I hope to get in the high 11's with the stall. After that I'm turning up the boost from 8 psi to about 13-14 psi with the addition of a alky kit. I built the motor with 8.5/1 compression so I could run more boost. Hopefully I'll get all this done before to long and will report the results thinks for the input guys.
