hey guys, i'm a regular on ls1tech but this is my first move in the truck department.

heres my question, i'm trying to help a bud of mine but opening his hood the motor was not what i expected to see....

Its a vortec 5700. in the manual it says its gen 3, but it does not look lsx based.
so what the heck is it??? it looks like a lt1 with a differant intake. it also looks like it has an on the intake distributor????

the truck is a 99 tahoe....

What is this motor? ls or lt based?

and who makes aftermarket parts for it?

99 Hoe should be the 350 vortech. Its not LT or LS based, its a Gen 1.

I would venture to say a TBI set the old school vortec 5.7. Does the air intake mount on top of the motor or in front?

Yep, the good ol vortec 350. Good motors. As far as aftermarket parts, just bolt-ons or something more serious?

gen 1? dam, wonder why the hell the owners manual said gen 3?
right now i just wanna find some nice bolt ons for it, i have no desusions(or money) to make it a 12 sec truck. but 14.5's would be nice.

any sites for parts(already checked the sponcers) that you know of would be great.

looking for CAI ported TB,s cat backs ect.

also his has a tick comming from what looks like a distributor(is that what it is?) any known troubles with them?

Check out Vinci hi performance for tuner and cam. Magnaflow has a great cat-back for them. About the tick, not sure but one common problem is intake manifold gasket failure. They have been known to crack and seep coolant into the engine oil.

I have a polished T.B. on e-bay now!!! I also have a T.B. spacer and a HPP III too! Sorry for the sales pitch on your thread. Just wanted to save you or your friend some money!!
