Clunking noise from base of steering column

It is kind of odd but my family has several cars that have this clunk/rattel when turning over rough surface. Our 2000 Saturn L300, 2002 Impala, and my 2003 Silverado does it a little. Can this harm the vehical?

Anything under 36k miles should be covered under warranty. The lube kit should be under $25. This will not harm the vehicle but, as time goes on it will drive you cazy.
