I prefer open element. Everyone that has a Volant or similar closed element will swear by it. But the differance is mild at best. "It will suck hot underhood air" Maybe, but when you are going more than 5 mph it will be getting fresh air right at it. I wouldn't lose sleep over the decision, just go with whatever looks best to you. Just my .02
