I've noticed a better gain in performace with my open element than i did with my volant on a side note.

..an open element is just that, open. But yes the hood sealed ones do help but not for my money.
I'm skipping all of that and going Radix. At about 41.00 per horse power if you pay full price and have it installed, it ain't too bad.
A tune, headers, catback and a cold air intake can get close to 2k. Do they net enough HP for the money? I know, it's a persional budget thing.

2k lol, Tune 450 Tune, 400 Headers, 250 Intake. 1100. thats about 900 Shy of 2k haha. Plus Tuneing with those parts will net some hp as well. No one really knows wats best. Or if they can really "feel" the power afterthe install. The fact that the weather around the country is so different. Some system will net more than other in different alttitudes. Really...for personally intrest. The only way to tell is if u find or buy 3 different ones (your top 3) Go to a dyno..and test them out. Then keep the best one.

couldnt have said it better, with tuners I can see iat's rise in traffic and it takes all of 2 secs for them to go back down to ambient temp

go with the open, some volants actually netted negative gains!!

I was thinking, even with a CAI, would the coolant running through the throttle body cancel out any cold air gained from an intake?

A tune, headers, catback and a cold air intake can get close to 2k
so far I'm at
AEM Brute Force: $85
JBA Shorty Headers: $150
Magnaflow Muffler: $75
Soon to be Tuned: $250

That puts me at $560 for some pretty decent HP Gains. If you look around you dont have to pay full price on anything, i wont pay $300 for an intake when you can find em a lot cheaper, that goes for anything else that isnt a FI system
