Default clearance

i am thinking of putting 28 10.5w et drags on my truck. does anyone know the clearance for rims and tires in the back? what size rim would be best to use? wasnt sure if a 15x10 plus tire would fit under the truck. i also have it dropped 2" in the back. any info would be great. thanks

15's won't fit on the newer trucks without grinding on the calipers. I run 26x10.5-16 on stock aluminum rims at the track...plenty of room.

Hoosier makes a 28*10-16 Drag Slick that fits on a 8-10" rim. That would be better than grinding the calipers. Hoosier and Mickey Thompson also make 26" slicks for 16" wheels.

I would check them out before grinding. If ya got a Jeg's catalog laying around take a look or go to www.jegs.com and check them out.

i need to go with a 28" tire b/c the 26 is to small and truck runs like crap. wasnt sure if the hoosier was to much tire or not. everything i have heard about hoosier was that u have to get the tires very hot for them to work good and the et drags u dont have to get as hot. if the hoosiers are just as good what size rim would be the best to use with the 28" hoosiers in the 16's? just a 16 inch rim with 10 inch backspaceing??

How did the truck run like crap on the 26" tall tires?? All that does is give you a better effective gear ratio. With a 26" tall tire and 3.42s, you get like a 3.96 effective ratio. And you're talking about 4.56 gears. That statement about the truck running like crap with the 26" tall tires just doesn't make any sense. The pcms and tranny is all based on the roughly 30-31 inch tire, so with 4.56s and a 28 inch tire, you'll be at like a 4.75 effective gear ratio or so.

I'm waiting on the 28X11.50 x 16 MT et Streets. According to what I measured a 16X9.5 rim with a 5" Back Space will clear the caliper and not stick the tire out past the fender.

6 back space will almost hit the caliper on a 16 rim and put the max width of the tire about 1 away from the leaf spring. No need for this unless you are looking to tuck the tire way up in the wheel well.
5" should be good,
I have 4" hotchkis springs with 20x9.5 and 275/45/20. They sit flush with the step side and give it the stance I was after- (The 99 SS suset gold step side that Chevy was too lazy to build.) Anyways unless you're tuckin tire you should be fine.
