Default Chevy Silverado Larger Oil filter

Hello everyone,

I have a 2007.5 Chevy Silverado 5.3 and a 2019 Chevy Silverado Tail boss LT 5.3. The 2007.5 Silverado takes 6qts of 5w-30 and Mobil 1 filter M1-113A. The 2019 Silverado takes 8qts of 0w-20 and Mobil 1 filter M1-212A.

From my research the only difference is the M1-212A is a little longer but they both have the same internals, media, and threads. Is that correct?

If that is correct, couldn't I run the M1-212A oil filter on my 2007.5 Silverado as well? I would figure the extra volume of oil and filter media would only be better. I'm assuming they converted to the longer filter for the newer trucks because they were trying to get extra mileage between oil changes while switching to full synthetic oil as well. Also it would be nicer to stock the same filter for both trucks then having to deal with two different ones.

Are any of you running the larger oil filter on your trucks? If so what is your experience?

Thanks

People do it all the time.

I don't know mobil part numbers because I run WIX filters so that is what I'm going on. The 7060 wix is the short and the 7045 is the longer one for the NNBS trucks, same filter just longer. Then the 1042 short and the 1522 long would be the older trucks. Some people get a little bent out of shape if the bypass pressure is slightly different between the two filters but it honestly makes no difference.

Just doing a quick cross reference on the WIX site shows that the M1-212A is a 7045 filter or a 100255 filter. I run the 100255's in my 2016 truck with the same engine as your 2019.

Ive always used the longer filters on truck pans.
Sometimes they are cheaper than the shorter filters

1999-2007 (13/16 Threads) Wix Short filter 51042 - AC Delco PF46 - Mobil M1-107
1999-2007 (13/16 Threads) Wix Long filter 51522 - AC Delco PF61 - Mobil M1-206

2008+(22mm threads) Wix Short Filter 57060 - AC Delco PF48 - Mobil M1-113
2008+(22mm Threads) Wix Long Filter 57045 - AC Delco PF63 - Mobil M1-212

The Mobil1 numbers for the 1999-2007(classic) trucks would be M1-107 for the short stock filter, M1-206 for the long one. Your results may vary.. M1 claims the 206 is for only the first couple years for some reason, yet I run them all the time on our '06 6.0's.

OReillys counterperson's computer view apparently shows them the "alternate fitment" filters, though the website does not. It's how I found the longer filter alternate for the GMT800 trucks, M1-107 (3-3/8") -> M1-206 (4"), and the early 1st gen 6.1 hemi filter M1-204 (3-3/4") -> M1-301 (5-1/8")

The filter isn't the 2qt difference. It's like a 4oz difference

Oh yeah, no doubt at all. That would be a helluva extendo-filter to make up a 2 quart difference.
