Default Check Engine light

So recently my light has came on and its throwing a code for the MAF sensor. What can be the problem? I dont know much about checking that part? All wires seem to be good also.

Which MAF code are you getting? The sensor could be bad, or...it could be coated in oil if you have an aftermarket CAI with an oiled filter. As you mentioned, could be the wiring also...

well i just took a look at the sensor and there seems to be no sign of oil. but i noticed the yellow wire going to the part that connects to the MAF has a slight little slit in it and shows some of the inside wiring. My MAF is also unscreened but has been since I have gotten the truck and i've never had any problems with it. Any other suggestions? Also are the MAF's from these kind of trucks the same as to the 1999-02 camaros? I may be able to swap the entire MAF if so just to see how it'd react

Also i'm not too sure about the code being thrown. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to use my friends code scanner.

You may not always see the oil, or fine dirt or lint for that matter...depending on the code, it may be worth it to try cleaning the MAF with some electrical contact cleaner just for poops and giggles.

poops and giggles is probably one of the top reasons to do anything IMHO. (post up the code once you get it)

yea go the cheap way first and go to the parts store and pickup a can of CRC maf cleaner like said above, spray it down and let it dry, do it a couple of times.. i have seen many cars and trucks have codes and do that and runs better than new! if that dont work id get another and leave the screen in it, unless your makn lots of power theres no need to take it out bc it can make your fuel trims and air ratio kinda go whack sometimes.. jmo tho good luck with it man

That could be corrosion in your volt wire. If that slit in the insulation bothers you enough cut it open and make sure the copper is good. If it isn't, make it good and seal up. Unplug battery for 5 minutes and try again. (remember it may run rough at first with battery unplugged for 5 minutes)
