CHEAPEST way to run 13's in an 01 5.3 rcsb
#32
Fair enough.....my personal thoughts on nitrous are that it is an expendable power source, one that also needs set-up(purge, bottle temp...) let alone around here it is not the easiest product to get.
The reality is racing or a sudden burst of power can be needed anywhere, and I'm not interested in not being ready to go or out of nitrous.
However for someone who's ultimate goal is to go as fast as possible down the strip, there is no substitute, it will always make you faster regardless of your set-up I believe. Thats not me, what I am looking for is an overall strip, track, street package.
thx

very seldom am i not ready to play a dual bottle set up will almost keep ur psi ready but i do understabd ur point i have been cuaght off guard a few times =(
with nitrous out id go 6.0 route.
i got a Full bolton LQ9 (plus its bottle fed) and i have never been to track but those local members around will agree my truck runs like a champ on 22s as i sit id bet id hit 13s even though i got ungodly heavy rims,
a swaped LQ9 with all boltons thats seems a more reliable way to go with plenty of options later.

my truck had K&N, flowmaster besides that 100%. i hit it with a 75 dry shot and went 13.3@104 mph with a 1.98 60' on street tires. truck was a 5.3 with 373 from factory. i had the speed limiter raised to run that mph but no tuning done. it weighed in with me at 44xx back in 05. done in end of april
i dont see why a slightly modded 5.3 cant run a 12 with same setup. hell my 5.3 ran 14.6@94 mph with a 2.1 on street tires back in 03. im sure with simple bolt ons and tune it owuld of been 13s the way it sat
01 should run solidly as well

My buddy had the following:
00 or 01 rcsb
stock 5.3L
home made (pvc) cai
electric fans
Hp tuners
stall converter
3.73 gear
traction bars
long tubes
kicker pump to assist with adding the extra fuel
up to 175 dryshot...spraying before the maf
Truck ran 8.20 in the 1.8th
Ran low 13's

also as long as your tuning is spot on and your fuel pressure is there nitrous is your best friend. Dont be scared...it is simply the best bang for buck just dont get stupid and try to add lots without fuel. The fuel makes it work.

Ok so here is where I stand after tonight. I feel terrible about my outcome so far, but I think there is some outlook on the horizon.
So since running the 10.06 best I cut out the cats and replaced them with a pipe section, cut off stock muffler and welded in a dynomax super turbo muffler and installed a 204/218 on a 114 cam with yellow springs.
This has all been a great learning experience for me, however in even better air tonight I only ran a 10.03-10.04. WTF all that and 2 hundreds of a second. I understand the tune isn't there but I would have assumed it should have ran better(not tuned at all yet).
Also truck does not idle well. I would have thought this small of a cam would have been easier for the pcm to manage.
Stock style truck how do you guys launch. I'm not getting any wheelspin(track uses compound), and either punching it from idle or stalling it to 1200 didn't really seem to make a huge difference. It seems to just absolutely yawn off the line.
I want to see my changes make a difference. Is all the power hiding in a custom tune? Why can't stock pcm adapt to any of the improvements I have made.

There is a huge amount of power hiding in a custom tune. That is a must. As for the nitrous everyone is pushing... It is not legal to have a nitrous bottle hooked to your system unless you are running on a NHRA drag strip in Canada. If you are caught with one any were else your ride is impounded. The laws are diff. here in Canada than in the US.
Nitrous oxide fuel systems prohibited

(b) the disconnection can be observed by looking at the interior or exterior of the motor vehicle; and
(c) the disconnected parts cannot be reconnected from the driver or passenger seats.
Sample inspection
