Should be a pretty straight forward swap. Find one with lower miles might be kind of tough though. Maybe he could get a cheap spare and rebuild it until the current one blows up and then swap it out over a weekend.

I had a sonoma that I blew up and put a stock 4.3 back in. it was a straight forward swap but nothing went easy on it for me. Nothing on that truck was easy for me. Every bolt was hard to get off and all electrical connections were very tough to get apart. Just my truck I suppose, it shouldnt be that difficult for your friend!

A very easy swap. If you look around you can find a later model vortec 4.3L. Then look around and find a 93-95 Full size chevy with a vortec 4.3L and grab the intake. Then you can run the higher output 4.3L and still run the stock TBI setup. Guys used to get the stuff from me all the time at the salvage yard to do that exact swap. Everything bolts back together just like stock only with a few more ponies.
