Carbon fiber driveshaft?
#1
I was at a local salvage yard today just looking around and I saw a carbon fiber driveshaft sitting in the back of a 99' GMC Sierra. I assume it came off that truck because there wasn't a driveshaft attached to the truck. These trucks didn't ever come with these did they? Do you think it was just aftermarket? It looked like a stock truck, and I didn't even know they made carbon fiber driveshafts for our trucks....maybe they don't. The truck was a long bed though and mine's a shortbed. If it is from that truck, is there any way to shorten a carbon fiber driveshaft? The guy said he wanted 40 bucks for it. I thought i might as well buy it.

Yea, i just called dodge with the part# and they said it was theirs, but they couldn't tell me what it came off of. A friend of mine has one on his R/T. It's probably the same thing.

I know nothing about foreign vehicles so I can comment on dodges, but I know several different kinds of trucks (including my 94 chev) come from the factory with a "composite" driveshaft which is some kind of heavy cheap plastic. Carbon fiber is lightweight high dollar stuff.
