Default Can someone please help?!

I have a 07 new body style 1500 crew cab with the 5.3. Did a compression test & one was about 25lbs lower than all others & coolant is disappering. Worst case scenario, a cracked head. If thats the case, i have a budget of just under 2,000$ to get some ported heads and figured a new cam while i have it torn apart. Im not looking for 800hp or the loudest baddest cam out there, just a little something extra than stock heads and cam that i wont have any problems with it being my daily driver. I have no idea about all the numbers except price tag. Can anyone recomend a decently priced setup? And if my stock heads arnt cracked, ill just have them ported and a new cam. Please help, im a newb!

Stay in the 212/218 range or similar for a cam swap, lots to choose from. That way you don't need a stall converter.

You'll need all the other parts for the AFM/DoD delete too, so valley plate, cam gear, lifters, lifter trays, bolts, gaskets etc etc.

Look up what active fuel management/displacement on demand is if you have questions on it. It all the stuff that makes it drop into 4 cylinder mode on the highway with the GEN 4 NNBS trucks.

Texas speed sells kits or you can piece it together.

Your truck should already come with 243/799 cylinder heads, they are basically the best flowing stock cylinder heads they make. Porting can help but I don't see it being a big gain when you aren't going for all out power. Mill the heads to bump compression and call it good if you want too.

No, flex fuel and AFM/DoD is not the same. Did the google for you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Fuel_Management

It's a special system that included this valley plate with AFm/DoD solenoids and oil passages to activate the DOD lifters and make the engine shut off 4 cylinders under low load cruising to gain fuel mileage. The camshaft, lifters, lifter trays, valley plate, cam gear and other parts neeed to be replaced when upgrading to a different camshaft.

Just installed the tsp stage 3 high lift in my 05 avalanche with a 5.3. 216/220 600 lift 112 lsa. Drives great even on the stock stall. I wouldn't go any smaller than that.

I wouldn't go any bigger than the 216/220 on stock stall, and I agree with the previous comment your stock heads flow really well up to 0.600 lift. My 862 heads kinda fall on their face after 0.550 lift.

You could buy a low mile used set of 243/799 for $3-400 have them milled 0.03 for 100ish, if you want you could get 0.04 head gaskets to bump compression up even more.

You will need a push rod length checker to get the correct length of pushrods. I ordered 3 different sets when I did my cam swap over a weekend, and sent back the two sets I didnt use.
