Stock 4.8 heads will bolt on but you'll have smaller ports, smaller intake valves and to much compression[about 11to1}.

Whats the difference between 4.8 and 5.3 heads? And if they are different would 5.3 heads work better?

No difference between 4.8 and 5.3 heads. They do have two different casting no's for the 4.8,5.3 but I don't know what the difference is.

Let me lear up what I mean. They are the same

they have tow different castings for BOTH the 4.8 and 5.3, but they are the same. Hope I didnt confuse you

Also the main reason not to go with the 4.8 heads is the flow. The 317's flow better than the 4.8/5.3 heads. The compression will be on th eedge if you have a LQ4, but still do-able, It will be too high if you have a LQ9

I Have 5.3 Heads On My 6.0 And The Heads R Shaved 30ths And My Comp Is Around 10.7 So Still Good. All You Have To Do Is Unschroud The Valves And It Will Lower The Comp. And It Does Not Take Much To Do This And It Could Low It A Good Bit.
The 6.0 Heads Have 2.0 And 1.6 Valves And The 5.3 Has 1.94 And 1.55.
And The Intake Runners Do Not Flow As Good As The 317 Heads Witch Come On The Zo6 And 6.0.

Randy, is what you gain in power from the raised compression worth the losses form lack of flow, or is it pretty even??

LQ9 only came in the Escalades and SS trucks. If you have the heads off check to see if the pistons are flwt top, or dished. If they are flat top, you have the LQ9, if they are dished, you have the LQ4
