All parts are on their way. May be a couple of weeks before I get to install them.

That was my thought too. I ordered all of my parts from Lingenfelter and ask one of their techs the same question. He said "no problem with that cam."

So what makes these better than the 918's, aside from the $100 difference. Are there any stiffness numbers on it, that's part of the picture right, making sure the springs can handle the ramp rate.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but the 918's are stiffer with more seat pressure than the LS6 springs. I think that the LS6 springs have something like 90lbs of seat pressure where the 918's are somewhere over 100. From what I've researched, the LS6 springs are more reliable, meaning they won't need replacement in 40K (they should be good for 100k depending on driving habits and engine set up). They are also quieter than the 918's, and you can pretty much get in and go, instead of having to baby the engine when cold to allow the springs to get warm. Supposedly the 918's are more prone to beaking when cold. This is all info that I've gathered from LS1Tech mostly. I ran Comp 915's and now LS6's with my baby cam, and I can say that the valvetrain noise is slightly less...or different. My engine has always been a ticky tappy SOB though anyway lol.

I'm beat but it's running. I took a short test drive in it. Still have to reinstall the meth injection, clean up a lot of loose ends, and spend several hours tuning.

I also installed a set of Efans and have some issues to work out with them.

I want to give a HUGE thank you to Main One for all of the hours he spent under the hood. I owe you a big favor.

A couple of the horror stories.

It started Friday night when MainOne showed up. I went out to hear the sound of his new cam. The cam sounds AWESOME but he had a ticking sound. After listening to it closer, we found that the sound was coming from the flex plate area. Saturday morning we pulled the inspection cover and found his flex plate was FUBAR. One of the 3 torque converter bolts had pulled a chunk out of the flex plate and there was at least one more crack in it. It was warped bad enough that at certain places the starter wouldn't even engage it.

It would not have been save to drive the truck anywhere. Since he's 3 hours from home, he decided to have it fixed locally. We arranged to have it towed to a local mechanic. His wife drove down to pick him up yesterday and will bring him back next weekend to pick it up. We didn't have time to take that project on.

next

My cam was supposed to come with a new dowel pin to locate the timing gear on it. It wasn't there. After holding for 15-20minutes on Comp cams tech line, they told us to just go to a local hardware store and buy a 1/4"x1/2" steel dowel. In Dawson Springs KY? Yea right .

We found some round steel stock to make one out of, returned home, and made it to the specs that Comp's tech told us to.

I inserted it into the cam and it went down flush with the hole . Obviously, Comp had given us the wrong length to make it but how the heck do you get it out? I started drilling it in an attempt to but a EZ out in it and extract it. I got lucky and the drill bit got stuck in it firm enough that I could pull it out with the bit.

next:

The most important lesson of the day.

Don't drop a bolt into the oil pan.

During the time that we spent trying to remedy this I got to the point that I had decided to have it taken to a shop to have the engine on front differential removed to get the pan off and have the bolt removed but again, we got lucky and were able to fish it out with a pen magnet. This was after a couple of hours.

There's more but those are the three highlites low-points of the weekend.

...and BTW, those LS6 springs are as quiet as it was from the factory.
