Default Can a 2000 Z71 do 100MPH?

I currently own a 2000 z71 with 5.3L. Current mods are K&N gen2 intake, flowmaster dual exhaust and Hypertech programmer. I up'ed the speed limiter and I can't get the truck to do 100mph. It comes very close but no cigar. Is it because i'm running 285 tires?

no kidding? Man I can get upwards in the 120's. Never hit the 128mark, but have come close.

I'm not good at this though...not sure why you can't do it.

I've never hit the 128mph cut off(never tried), but my truck never stoped pulling.

I can't help but feel you are one of those Dodge of Ford boys that like to see how the other side live. Either way; I see its your first post welcome to the board.

Easily. I hit that in my 99 a few times. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> With the help of a HPP3

Hey, all of us Ford guys aren't trolls <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> !

You could have:

1. Incorrect ign. timing
2. Faulty or incorrectly gapped plugs
3. Dirty air filter
5. Clogged fuel filters(ours can get clogged in 6,000 miles)
7. EGR not functionong properly
8. Dirty fuel injectors
9. Auto trans(?) fluid level incorrect, causing slippage

I've got a 2000 Z71 and it pulls to 100mph with ease (and waaaay past) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I've tapped the 128 speed limiter just once racing on the expressway. I am always amazed at how much top end pulling power the 5.3 has, even in a 5000lb truck.

My only mods are Gibson single 3" exhaust and HPP.

if you have larger than stock tires and didnt change tire setting on the hypertech then you could be going 110-120 but the speedometer only reads 100. when i took my programming of for 2 days i could only go 87 mph because i have smaller then stock tires. so check that out first.

I thought the 2000+ trucks had 100 mph speed limiters. I havent been able to get my 03 5.3 with stock wheels/tires and some other mods to far over 100. When trying to do so I feel the engine back off the throttle.

I always thought it was necessary to use a chip or programmer like the HPP3 or Predator.

Do you guys have such a programmer or are you guys using another speed limiter mod?
