Default Camshaft Dilema

Okay before everyone starts busting my chops......I DID use the search button and I DID check out the sticky Cam Thread, and my question hasn't been answered.

I'm looking to change my cam in my truck..(mods in sig). I'd like a cam to produce a good amount of low end torque and power. My mid range and top end is cool with me, but I need to come out of a stop harder and faster. I really don't want anything that has a monsterous lope to it, or a cam that's going to cause problems with other operations (like brakes), and I need it to be polite enough for daily driving.

I WILL change out my stock rockers to some 1:8 or 1:7 Harlands or Cranes when I do the cam. Other than that, my heads will be pretty much stock.

So......I need some suggestions from you guys that have already been there and done that.

Thanx guys

so your saying your fine with your stock cam and your Higher rpms power?

Something to somewhat help you out. From what I have read. the lower the LSA the quicker or lower the power comes in. The less intake duration the more down low power, i.e. 212/218 instead of 220/220. I run a 208/220 .571/.577 118.5 GT2-3 cam. I love it for its Low end and mid ranger power. ANd pulls good up top. THen loves the juice even more.

The cam I'm running now, VHP 062 - 210/218, .551/.551, 112 is all about low end. Pair it with a set of the Crane 1.8 rockers and it would be even better. In my truck it dynoed at 310rwhp and 322 rwtq with bolt ons and exhaust. It's suited me very well for 10K miles on a stock converter, but this spring it's time to step it up a bit so it's coming out.

That may be a cam for me to look into. My stock convertor stalls to 2100rpms so I want TQ coming on strong as close to that as possible.

I am also looking into the TR "old man" cam. Its got alot of lift and is known for low end pulling power. Its said to also ad nearly 50rwhp over stock cam.

have to agree with ya tom. definately need torque to get our heavy trucks moving. try it with a 3K stall and gears the toyos don't stand a chance. the rev limiter (6.4K) comes mighty fast.
