Default Cammed '08 Yukon

Hey all, my first post on performance trucks! love the website and have been an avid viewer of it for quite sometime.

As the title says, I've got an '08 yukon, lovely suv except for the fact its a dog off the line. With the research I've done I did a few so called budget mods to get her moving, and so far I'm pleased but would love some more!

Mods are:

Comp Cams XR265H14 (212/218 .522/.529 114LSA)
AFE Torque Tube
K&N Panel filter
Gutted Cats
Tuning by yours truly

Took her to the dyno tonight and got these numbers.

298.86HP & 316.65TQ

How does this rank for the mods i've done?

I haven't added any springs to go in sync with the cam, my mechanic told me I'd gain around another 10-15hp/tq since I'm not getting as much lift as I should. His point does support the fact that at around 5k rpm the numbers do go earthbound.

Thinking about getting some gears in since I'm rolling 20s right now, I've got 3.73s but wouldn't mind some 4.10s.

Any advice would be great!

those numbers are outstanding for cam only 5.3L! How do you like that 212/218? How's the low end torque compared to stock? I also gotta ask. How bad does you exhaust smell with no cats/

Not bad at all man. Throw some longtube headers on that thing and you'll gain alot more!

Well this being my first cam I do actually like it. I had some slight idle issues, but adding some more timing and raising the rev limiter 50rpm more smoothed it out. Plus it sounds almost stock which was the sleeper effect I was looking for.

For advertised gains being from 1800-6000rpm, I felt most of the gains at around 3500rpm+. Still a dog outta the hole, I know gears are a must!

In time I will do, I'm looking into the Pacesetters and custom make a Y-pipe or maybe even go true duals later down the line, but as of yet, I just piad $150 to gut the cats proper, so will need to save up a little...

If you dont mind getting into the trans, I would get a 3000 stall converter and retune it. Should get you off the line then.

seems kinda low for a cammed 5.3. i put down 277rwhp with tune, CAI, and a 10 series muffler. you'd think it would be more around 310+ IMO.

Get some adequate valve springs asap, the factory springs are only good for just short of .500 lift. The springs won't affect the total lift of the cam lobe, but could cause valve float or break...issues that you definitely don't need on your nice new Yukon for sure.

A nice 3k converter should help you get moving, as well as the gears you mentioned

Destoying a pair of OEM catalytic converters was pointless wasn't it? They are not restrictive enough on a naturally-aspirated engine to be worthy of attention.

My tuning was very conservative. Taking the truck out to tune in the AFR right had killed the battery, so I wasn't able to trial and error the spark, Im running 20.5* at WOT... My dyno told me with the cam I should be getting around 305hp, but the tq was good... Plus do keep in mind how small my cam is.

Actually to be honest, it made a hell of a difference! The amount of crap that was in them was crazy, and the size of them compared to the earlier GMs, they look like monsters! SOTP feeling soon as I was out the shop had increased..

Thanks, I was waiting for someone to chime in as to whether or not the stock ones will hold or not. Probably tonight or tmrw since it's the weekend here.. Any point in spending more then some OEM LS6 springs?
