Default cam and rockers installed, of course...theres a problem

Installed a VHP 45 cam along with new springs/retainers/seats/seals/pushrods and Crane's 1.8 quick lift rockers...

I followed the instructions but seem to have a noise from the valvetrain. Its sort of a tapping/clunking sound....and I cant tell if its from both sides or just the pass. side. I tightened them up 1/8 turn just to see if that helped...nope....so I thought a quick drive around the block might fill the lifters up and maybe cure the noise.....after struggling to get around the block and stalling twice (it actually stalled as I was driving into the garage so I put it in neutral and glided in - started it again, and now there is a squeaking sound as well.

What could it be? I'm thinking either the rockers are loose (they have some side to side movement but no rocking looseness. And the squeaking reminds me of a part of the install when I was trying to put a pen magnet down the pushrod hole, and there seemed to be an ubstruction....I looked down there best I could and saw a little ring type of thing in the way? A smaller pen magnet pushed it out of the way. I didn't think much of it...until now.....maybe the pushrod is rubbing up against it? I really dont know what it is or where the sound(s) are coming from....

Any ideas?

As far as it not running well after the install I think is to be expected. It will take the PCM a long while to re-learn idle. Especially after a new cam. Anytime I disconnect my battery it runs/idles like crap for a good while before settling down.

Its been my experience that adjusting valves can be a tedious PITA. Thats why I like the torque and go method. I don't know how the Cranes are designed but if they aren't torque to spec and require adjustment you would be very lucky to get it right the first time. IMHO

There should be nothing in the pushrod plane to the lifter. If there is find it and get it out.

Good Luck.

I talked to roger at vinci today and he thinks its just the blower clutch making all that racket. Which would make sense because it sounds like gears knocking together and the idler pulley sort of goes crazy when it happens. The change in vacuum caused by the new cam would cause this. The tune allen is sending me will raise the idle enough to eliminate the problem.

So I'm pretty sure the rockers are good to go...and I'll report back on the trucker cam once I get the new tune in.
