Cam question for 99SilveradoSS!
#1
Hey I have a 1999 GMC Sierra with the 5.3L, and I was wondering, when you installed your cam did you notice a difference in throttle response and power? Also how much did it cost? Did you install it yourself? Did the cam come with lifters or anything else? Last question, did you have to re-tune your computer, or will it run fine with the stock computer? Thanks, sorry for the long list.

I got the cam on sale through Thunder Racing for like $379. I had to buy the pushrods (Thunder Racing = $110) and 02 LS6 springs (SDPC = $100) seperate. I had a local performance shop install everything. At first I could only tell a little performance gain. Then my truck wouldn't stay running, die on me around corners, just real bad tuning issues. I took it back to the place that installed it and he adjusted the throttlebody butterfly to let more air in at idle. No more idle, dying problems, the converter is acting up though. After messing w/ the butterfly in the Throttlebody it runs alot harder than it did w/ the stock cam. It has real nice torque starting at 1800-2000rpms and real nice upper rpm horsepower (4000+). I will be getting it Dyno-tuned at Futral Motorsports in the next month or so, along with a few other things. I'll let you know how that goes. I can't wait to raise my shift points from 5200 to at least 5900-6000!
What mods do have? What are your plans for your truck? Let me know if you have any more questions, send me a pm or e-mail. If I can't help you someone else can. Everyone is very helpful around here.
