cam question

i got a 00 rcsb with the 5.3, long tubes heades and y, custom tune, was wanting to get texas speed 224r cam but was unsure on the stall i was told a 3600 but no lower than a 3200, there is a big price difference between the two, i can get a circle d 3200 for a little under 400, there 3600 is over 700 i was wondering is there even that big of a difference, or is there another cam that would be good to

what dmelvin said is a good combo in a RCSB. With a 224R I'd probably get a 3400-3600, although if you are on a budget a 3200 278mm would work. The 3400rpm on up converters are going to be a smaller diameter converter vs the 278mm. The bigger 278mm converters are more tame and budget friendly. There are other companies out there that make / build the smaller diameter converters for less than others.
FTI, Edge, Revmax, PTC converters out of alabama, etc..
FTI offers budget converters all the way to converters in the 4 digit range. Revmax also has budget line converters and more expensive converters. Edge and PTC same thing.
Check out FTI they have a 278mm 3200rpm also and its only $349 btw.

You can only take a 278mm to about 3300 at most and it be worth a damn. Any thing over that and it will be terrible. I know yes it could be done but with such a negative blade angle I was told it will be real terrible in the performance dept.
That is why you see 278mm converters from companies go up to 3200 max.
Yes Chris at circle D can take the 278mm to 3300 and increase the STR a little, I know because I asked him about it before.

Pretty much the same as what has already been said. A 278mm 3200 would work with a 224r cam, but I would personally want to drop down a size smaller diameter converter with the 224 cam and run a 3400-3600 if it were my truck.
Plenty of guys use the 278mm converters though, because they are so affordable and on a budget. It is your call.
IF you don't want to shell out a little bit more for a smaller diameter converter, and do not feel like doing any other upgrades on the truck atm (meaning you just want to do a basic cam swap, headers and stall) the tsp220 is the sweet spot for staying with a 278mm.
