As for the 411 swap your best bet is to drive to Houston.

Who in Houston?

I used a 260HR in a 3/4 ton 1975 Chevy. It was wicked off the line. It had a performer intake, Carter Carb, and headers/duals, 4.11 gears. Few factory cars could keep up with it from light to light.

The XFI version will only be better.

I forgot to mention, it was a Gen I 350 with cast (!) TRW flattops and 64cc 1.94 heads. Your Vortec heads should flow much better too assuming they've got 1.94 or larger intake valves.

Uh-oh... This article indicates you might be limited to a .460 lift cam with your stock Vortec heads!
Vortec Cylinder Heads: The Definitive Guide - NastyZ28.com
For roughly $900 you can get a pair of modified Vortec heads from sdparts.com that can handle upto .525 lift. The ramps in the heads are designed to work with lifts of .300 to .500 so you don't want too much more than .500 anyway.

This spring/retainer kit claims to give .550 lift clearance for $90 on unmachined vortec heads
Vortec Head Spring/Retainer Kit - Straub Technologies

You wouldn't need to take the heads off to do a spring replacement.

It would be best if you found something like this from one of the sponsors. I just googled and posted the first thing that might work for you.

For any cam, you should upgrade your springs. Make sure you already have roller lifters, get some if you don't. upgrade your pushrods too. I would buy roller rockers as well. If you go with the TPI intake, and an X4258HR which should work with stock valve retainer to guide clearance, Camquest claims your dyno results will look something like:

The X4260R actually produces less torque
