cam for more torque or something else
#1
what would be a good cam that would offer more or equal tq than hp and still let the truck have the same programming. If there is no such cam what bolt-ons would make my slow *** truck quicker (NO NO2).
By the way the truck is:
99' Chevy EC Z71 4.8L with an intake, exhaust, HPP, TB Spacer, JBA power Cables and tr55 plugs, and a de-screened maf

Go here:
http://www.compcams.com/catalog/088_089.html
At the bottom, there are 3 cams listed for the LS1. The uppermost cam will be the one.
Also here:
http://www.cranecams.com/master/apps/chevy72.htm
Again, the top choice.
I would prefer the larger lift of the comp, but I don't think I'd want the 112 LSA on it. On the otherhand, the crane is lower lift with a 114 LSA. Those two are "boxed" items available from retail chains. You could get a custom ground cam for a little more money, that would give you more of what you want.
The larger the duration numbers of the cams, the higher the powerband will be in rpms, in trade for low end power. Stick with smaller durations. You might think about getting more lift to assist filling the chambers if you go with short durations. If you go above .500 lift, you will need new valve springs. Personally, I'd change the springs even if you go with the cranes .500 lift.
I think you will see gains with either cam, mainly in the mid - upper range. Its real hard to get stump pullin torque out of a 4.8 without a power adder.
