Been there done that!
tr220 on a yank tt3000 or circle d ..not impressed
212/218 on those convertors runs great
212/218 was actually faster with stalls listed

TR220 needs atleast a 34-3600 9.5 diameter stall to get in power sooner

I had a TR220 in my LS1 and it didn't run very well until I installed long tubes. I then put it in my buddy's 5.3 truck with a stock converter and no headers. The truck wasn't very impressive until he installed long tubes and a TT3200 converter.

You'll be much happier with a cam a little on the small side, than a little on the big side. I've had them on both ends of the spectrum, in several LSx platforms. I know it's not the popular thing to say on this forum, but it is the truth.
Thanks for commenting, I really appreciate your input.

You put something in perspective for me and that's that my "build" is a progression that I drive everyday between adding/switching parts. So for me, I will be installing a cam into a truck with completely stock exhaust and stock converter. I will be adding long tubes and doing transmission mods in the future, but it won't happen all at once. Also, I already own the Comp cam, which really adds to it's appeal.

The other thing that I need to remember is that adding a cam is not adding a turbo or supercharger. I won't be gaining 100hp instantly. Also, since this truck may never see the track, once or twice if I'm lucky, the power down lower will probably benefit me on a daily basis.

VERY GOOD Info here, this is the reason why I asked the question, so I could here from guys like you who have done all of this before.

I don't feel comfortable going with a stall of that size, nor does my allotted budget allow for a 9.5 diameter converter.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment, I needed real input and not "bigger is probably better".

212/218 makes power way sooner which is great for a daily driver
even with the stock stall the 212/218 had no dead spots unlike the tr220 which i hated its lack of power under 3k rpm
