Default CAM install? Should I even try?

I will be getting the nelson tune soon enough, but I have a feeling I will want more power. Go figure.
Anyways, my next step I believe will be the 2002 zo6 cam for my truck.
A cam.... install sound scary to me. Need some input from all yall pros out there. Im no stranger to engines or anything but have never really delt w/ any "newer" engines internals.

Should I attempt it or just leave it be?

And will it be worth it?

Thanks yall.

Cory

Well that cam from what i have heard has mid to top end not much low end. Now a cam install it pretty easy if you ask me. Take valve covers off . Take the rockers loose. Pull pushrods out. Put pen magnets in to hold the lifters up. Take water pump and crank pulley off. Take the timing gear cover off. And there are a couple of other things but these trucks are not that hard to work on.

a cam install is VERY MUCH WORTH IT....BUT, not that particular cam...some people love that cam, but it's not my personal favorite. it's just not designed for a truck. my buddy has an 02 LS6 in his 00 GMC 4.8 and it doesn't do **** till about 4k rpm, and even then it's not much better than stock. i say go with a custom grind, like a 215 .555 112 cam, the 112-114 LSA will make better low end.

These new motors are like working with Legos. You sound skilled, install a cam like what slowverado said (113-114ish) and long tube headers and get the nelson tune after the fact.Yhen you will be tip top.Or install a 6.0 take out with a cam+ nelsons
