Cam help bigtex
#1
Hey bigtex I was thinking of getting a comp cam custom ground. I think I will get one for the following mods. The truck is a 01 5.3 rcsb When it is done I would like tt3000,asm or flp,4.10,upd,electric fans, and a magnaflow cat back. I would really like to get a cam where I would not loose very much low end. Comp 208/212 550 555 114 on xe lobes I think. Would this be a good cam for this set up or would I be better going with a off the shelf 212/218 522 529.

How choppy can you handle? you have a big stall and a light truck you can go more duration and a little tighter like 218/220 550/555 113 something along these lines.Well this would work better in a 5.7 or 6.0 TeX?

i like that cam you describe there gonzo...but i'd go with a 112 LSA....just cuz my cam is a 112 and i love it. that cam is no way to big for a 5.3...the 5.3 can handle just as much cam as a 5.7 with propper tuning/converter/gears.

Did you see the cam that Somke_ur 50 installed? Comp 215 215 .558 114 +2 I think. That works well for him. It will lose a little low end, but that converter will correct that. I'd say anyting in the 212 - 216 range with Xomps XE lobes. Yes, you could probably go larger like the guy running the thunder 220, but at what point do you have too much cam for a smaller motor and heavy truck? A thunder 220 would be good for a 6liter.

Alright thanks guys. I may up that to something like a 212 216 .558 114+2,4. What do you think of that. How much power should a properly tuned set up like that make.

The LS6 cam will make it much easier to spin your truck in to the 6000+ range. You'll need to watch your fuel injector pulse width. At some point in the higher rpms, they won't be able to keep up. Thats probably not going to be an itssue at this point, but later on.....
