Great converter choice.

Make sure you get the oil pump centered on the crankshaft before you torque it down.

 

I got the LS-1 how to bible glued to my windshield so I'm going step by step.

Should I do the ARP Heads studs,ARP Head bolts or GM bolts?

I got GM bolts but if I can get something better and not have to re buy bolts or swap out if I go turbo....

 

Arp are reusable.

 

Anybody got any tips or tricks as far as the timing and what not?

Just have the timing cover to pull and is there any thing else I gotta know or watch out for?

Can you install head studs with the engine still in the truck?

 

I believe so. You might want shorter rods with the LS7 lifters, they are 0.05" taller than stock. Lots of people are running 7.4" rods though, you will just have more preload than normal. If you mill the heads or run a thinner gasket then you definitely want shorter rods. A pushrod length checker is the only for sure way to know though.

 

LS1Howto.com is pretty legit... used it alot on my first ls powered machine and it helped a ton. If your an ls newb, tons to learn from that site...

 

Cam set up is gonna go into a 2006 LQ4 now,not gonna mill the heads and gonna use a stock GM gasket kit. might send the 7.4's back and get one step shorter.
