I say cam as long as you can get it retuned shortly after, the right cam with the proper tuning will totally change your truck. Gains with efans are minimal...I consider efans an "after the good stuff" mod, at least that's the way I did it.

Why not do both? If you're sweating 80-100 bucks on efans, you've got the wrong hobby

None of my cams ever drove like ****. I loved every one Ive had. Some more than others.
If youre willing to spend the money ($400ish for cam, $150ish for springs) Id go cam. Youre really not going to see much difference with the fans.
If you want it to idle good etc, youre gonna need it re-tuned, but youd need that for the PCM to control the fans too. I hated manual fans. If you forget about them, or let someone else borrow your truck that forgets, its too easy to let it get hot.

As far as cams go, with most performance cams, youre gonna sacrifice a little low end power for mid to upper RPM gains, some more than others. Im planning to run a 220/220 in my 4.8, but havent decided for sure. Its slightly on the bigger side of what most people run in the 4.8, but oh well, too many people here talk out of their *** about things they dont know about. But the reverse is true also, there are many people that know a bunch too.

For a DD 5 speed with a 4.8, id recommend a 212/216, or a 216/220 personally, but even better would be get a custom cam ground. They cost the same and instead of making an educated guess off of someone you dont know's opinion, you can let someone who specs cams for a living spec something that will make you happy .02

Cam...even tuned properly e-fans arent worth the hassle. So they free up 15+hp, its irrelevant @ WOT cause the clutch fan disengages. U wont feel the diff with fans that u will with a cam. Fans are a PITA - I'd never do them again unless they came stock...voltage drop, lights dim, relays blow (then truck overheats!). Of course if u do them, check out the various harnesses. So far I have yet to find one with big enuf guage to handle the voltage draw without the above probs...
