Question Cam choice fort the Wife's 'Hoe

2002 Z71 Tahoe

I almost have the wife convinced that she needs a cam upgrade in her '02 'Hoe. We are not looking for a high horsepower screamer here, just some more low end grunt. I have my old cam from my Z28 laying around and was wondering if it is a wise choice? It is a Comp Cams 216/220 .525/.532 114LSA. Would this cam work well in here 5.3L? Absolutely cannot sacrifice drivability but would like a little more low end power.

Thanks
Josh

That seems like a little mild. I think it should work OK. Have you thought about a new converter too?

If you don't put it on, will you consider selling it?

I actually think that cam is a little big in the 5.3 - if you don't want to loose low-end power.

I read about people on here loosing low-end with the next one down - the 212/218 .522/.529 114.

I personally think the 206/212 .515/.522 112 would be best...

If you add about 600rpm to the lower rpm range listed here..., I think that'll give a good idea to where the cam actually makes the same power as stock... From there, it builds.

IE: the cam you first mentioned was good from 1300-6300. I'd guess it'll start making at least the same power as stock, by 1900rpm... which would probably feel like a huge flat spot when the TC locks up at cruise...

Your in the same boat as me. This is the cam I have come up with after MANY, MANY dicussions with memebers, Crane Cams and Comp cams. Its a custom grind. 212/212, .528"/.528", 112 LSA with +4 degrees of advance. It will net great gain and loose very littel if any low end.

I really think it's a great cam not only because that is the same exact cam I will be installing in my truck after the new year but with the right converter, bolt on's, and edit tune could make a nice performer. If you install it before the new year let me know the out come?

Good question. My wife has the exact same vehicle. I'd like some input here as well!
