Default cam advice

i have a 99 5.3...i plan on bolting some stage 2 patriot heads on. What would be an good cam to accomodate them. I have a 9 inch lift kit and i have 38 inch tires. they are pretty heavy. i changed the gears to accomodate the tires. i just need advice for an excellent cam that will provide me with alot of power for those tires.

I'll try to answer some of your q's from other threads here also...

Instead of getting big buck heads I'd get a pull out 6.0 and get a cam in there. The 6.0 has a MUCH larger bore which is going to give you more power all over. The 6.0 heads are just large chamber Z06 heads also. I'd treat them to a mild polishing of the runners then stick them back on. Perhaps mill them a bit for more compression.

I think single pattern cams yield more torque than dual patterns. A good cam most like here is the 212/218 ~.520/.530 114LSA more power from idle to 6000+rpm.

A blower is a good way to add a lot of power quick but you're gonna drop an easy $5K for that Radix then another ~$2K for a tranny rebuild. N/A power tends to be more plesant to the driveline.

A 6.0 w/ warmed up heads, nice cam, and full exhaust would really shine. 325-375rwhp should be attainable. I'd consider a mild stall converter also. 2400-2600rpm is nice and will allow ya to tow...if you don't tow I'd get more stall...like I plan to.

I agree,

I just did a cam,springs,rods gasket kit,pulley bolt, etc..
good increase but for alittle more I'm finding 6.0l complete pull outs poping up close and closer to my area. anywere from $1000 to $2500.

I was thinking heads to go with my 212/218 high lift cam/stall/4.10/5.3 reg cab but after seeing the price and the fact I have the Ti rets and springs already I'm staying away from them.

I would do the 6.0l if I were to do it over again.

Even with my all bolt on cam 5.3 I don't think I'm close to the 6.0l.

you probobly want low end, not top end I'm assuming. In this case Id honestly go with a 6.0, cleaned up heads and a cam for that but if you are not looking to spend that much money, heads/cam will work. Id talk to www.cmotorsports.com for heads. Heads are hand ported (at least my LT1 ones were) to meet whatever your goals are, not a one size fits all kind of deal. If you are looking for low end power, dont look at flow numbers. you should concern yourself with a head that will provide a high velocity.

so you are saying i should buy a whole 6.0 engine, or just put on 6.0 heads??? how much would that cost. would i have to tune the computer when i put new heads on?
