Default Cam For The 422?

I am changing the cam on the 422 because I dont want to machine the heads for double springs and I will be pulling about 7500lbs every weekend. I want a cam I can still hear. The current cam is a 244/244 612/620 lift or something close to that so I think. Any input would be great

222-224, 56x-57x, 112-113 should sound nice and perform well in that motor. Just my .02

I was thinking along those lines so I could still pull a load. Also I thought that tuning would being a lot easier.

I wouldnt go below a 232 or so with a high .5xx lift. You can use the crane or patroit dual springs in stock spring pockets if that is the main reason you want to change cams.

Well said. Patriot duals are about $200ish I believe. A 222 intake lobe is wayy to small for a 422 motor. Why spend all that money on the motor and then choke it with a small cam and cheap springs?

Check the sponsors for the best prices. Most any of them will have the Cranes but I know that TSP carries both of them. The Pats are a little cheaper and they have gotten good reviews. I help a friend install a set on his WS6 not long ago and they looked like very nice springs.

I agree ... 222/224 is WAAAYYYY to small for that big of an engine. That would be almost an ideal cam for a 6.0. I say maybe a 230/234 at least. Maybe even bump it up a little more.

I dont think a 422 with any size cam would have less low end than a stock 5.3, and they never have any trouble towing 8k+ lbs.

Stick with the big cam if you can, and rape the 1/4 on the weekends.
That setup should by far be the baddest, fastest N/A around.
