Default Cam for a 4.8?

A buddy is wanting to get a little more out of his Silverado with a 4.8. Is it worth it to do a cam in the 4.8? If so, are there any cams made specifically for it?

Honestly.... Its basically the same price to just do an engine swap.... A stock 6.0 will make better more reliable power than a cammed 4.8.

If you wish to cam your 4.8, then there are many choices. For daily drivability you would be hard pressed to beat comp's 212/218 low lift cam. If you are interested in spinning that thing up a bit, then I would suggest a tr220 cam on a 112 lsa. There are many cams in the middle ground as well as a good old fashion custom grind. Either way, don't forget the supporting mods. If you do decide to go as high as the tr220 cam, you will need at least a 3000 stall to get the most from it. Good luck on your truck man.

400 cam
100 pushrods
200 springs

I dont think you can do a motor for 700 bucks....Yeah a 6.0 would be great. Everyone with a 4.8 doesn't need a motorswap, build it like a 5.3 and choose your drivetrain accordingly, it'll be fine.

I have a stock cam out of an 01 Camaro SS, I was going to give him. But a friend said it wouldn't really be worth it for a stock LS cam.
I also heard a stock LS6 cam works well. I was thinking the 212/218 would be good in it too.

either the 206/212 or 212/218 would be my choice. A free good LS1 cam would be a good thing as well. Can't beat free.

If I could come across a 6.0 I would have done that!

I love my 212/218, but I have all the supporting mods. Gears are next on my list.

you're going to spend more money on a 4.8 trying to build it up when you can find cheap 5.3s or a 6.0 shortblock and use what's on the 4.8 to complete it. I understand not everyone wants to do an engine swap.... But after cam comes tune, then they'll want headers, or a stall to help the cam.
