california new guy with upgrade questions
hi, as you can all tell, im new. i dont want to beat the "which cam is best for me" horse any farther into the ground then it has already been done, but alot of the builds on here are very extreme:bagged 2wd reg. cab shortbeds or lifted with giant tire trucks. and fewer are from california. anyway, my question to those who have done it when their trucks were farther from extreme then they currently are:
Im looking into a couple mods, namely the comp 212/218 cam, a circle d 2600 stall converter, efans, and a corvette servo. has anybody had any trouble smogging their truck with a cam in california? ive been doin a lot of research and have my of my ideas down, but im deployed right now, so i cant actually start assembling everything yet.
the truck im working with is my 01 silverado z71. stock 3.73's, 285/75r16 tires, no lift and only powertrain mods are a blackbear tune, flowmaster exhaust and a k&n filter

Not sure on if it will pass. I don't see why not since it is a very mild cam, but a very well proven cam.. Atleast YOU DID YOUR HOME WORK, That combo set up should work very well for your truck..

It should pass, check out my build thread HERE
I am in northern california, I passed with my cammed 6.0 and I even posted a pic of the smog results. As long as its tuned good (I used blackbear as well) and you keep ALL original smog equipment I don't see why you wouldn't pass.

For an LS1, the biggest you can go in CA is 224/224 114 LSA and still pretty guarantee to pass smog. Of course that's a 5.7L, a smaller engine will need a smaller cam. I suspect a 212/218 would pass without worry. Of course you can always run some denatured alcohol in the tank to help your chances. A good tune is also necessary.

brandon what part of northern california are you in?
is a 2600 stall converter fine or would something higher like 2800 be better?
im not really lookin to race the truck, i just want some more kick down low.
also, are there any threads on here on how to replace the converter in a 4x4 without dropping the tranny/transfer case?
