And the hole in the fender is already filled with Great Stuff expanding foam for engine/blower noise reduction, so I didn't really have a choice. And at speeds under probably 40 mph, I would guess I lost power because the air would be coming from a smaller opening. But I will trade a couple of hp for better mpg on the highway.
thats a pretty freakin good idea lol

^ supercharged680 Bro, go sleep Just kidding. Vara has a bad design but that thing flows right.

I would prefer the mighty Volant CAI, simply plug and play, no cleaning needed, no hassle.

Almost forgot...I replaced my Volant filter with a dry filter from Amsoil and I'd swear that I felt a slight gain there...may have been because the Volant filter was dirty, or maybe it was the placebo affect, but not having to oil the filter and worry about contaminating the MAF was good enough reason for me to do the switch

i have the pre-filter on my Volant w/ram tube and my filter is almost never dirty (at least not that i can see with the naked eye). However, the pre-filter gets pretty nasty and does a good job of grabbing dirt. it's a lot easier to clean too than the actual gauze filter. i usually just clean the pre-filter and re-oil the volant filter and i'm good to go.
