Default Buying a used cam?

Well my cam came in the mail today and everything looked great to me. I told my step dad that I bought it slightly used, he then told me it was useless and to go throw it in the pond.

He says that this cam I got today already has ridges from the lifters of the previous vehicle, and my lifters will make new ridges on the cam in a different spot causing a flat spot on the lobe and it'll wear quickly, make any sense? And same goes for the lifters..

I figured some of you could tell me if it's fine or to go with a new one. I mean, I see people buy used cams on here and over on Tech all day long so thats why I don't want to beileve it.

The old flat tappet lifter cams were only reusable if you kept the correct lifter with correct lobe. Roller cams are not like that the lifter does not slide on the lobe it rolls so there is little to no wear. I have a used cam in my motor and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. $400 for a cam is ridiculous

Exactly what Joshluther said...the old flat tappet cams were the ones that you couldn't re-use unless you swapped the lifters with them. This is no longer an issue with the newer roller lifter cams. Guys are buying and using used cams all the time.

Thanks for the help ya'll, he admits he's out of date on most of the new stuff. I had planned on putting it in either way though and just seeing for myself.
