Buying an '05 GMC - What's First?
#1
Sold my Z28 yesterday and will be cruising the greater Houston area for a 2005 GMC Crew Cab. So this is sort of my hello post to the board, but I also was wondering what are good frst performance mods to wake up these trucks a bit after being properly broken in.
I will (at first) limit myself to stuff that will not void the warranty (and credit card for that matter), but I'm really just looking for a few good places to start my 5.3 V8 mod education. I'll do plenty of searches on this board, but just wanted to say hi and get a good basics thread started if there wasn't one that I missed.
Thanks!

I'm going to take advantage of the low prices on the 2005's while I can.

A tune of some sort (I have Wait4me and really like it)
CAI (I gutted my factory box, K&N, and will be getting an Airaid MIT)
Free mods (TB bypass, etc)
E-fans (will be one of the next mods for my truck)
Good luck with the truck... you can't beat the prices right now!!

Whats first - Well, with my experiences with GM and rail dust, IMO, first should be to claybar and wax that sucker.
I usually do like such - Tint windows, do my gauges, solid break in on stock motor then switch to Mobil 1, then intake and exhaust, any free mods you want to do, then a perf tune and shift kit / servos to wrap it all up.
A tune will be the biggest noticeable improvement, by far.

You can save a little money on an air box by just getting a K&N and then cutting a hole in the side of the factory air box. I cut a hole approx 3"x6" directly behind the headlight. I could tell a big difference above 4000 and you can't even see where the hole is cut unless you know it is there. But that was the second mod I did. The radix was first!
